Ross Bailes 13th in North/South 100 at Florence; pair of Top-10 outings in prelim action
After taking the last few weeks off, Ross Bailes embarked on a trip to the Bluegrass State for the North/South 100 weekend at Florence Speedway (Walton, Ky.) with the Lucas Oil Late Model Series.
With 61 Late Models checked in for opening night on Thursday, Bailes qualfied sixth-fastest in his group before picking up a third-place finish in his heat race. Starting 11th in the first $6,000-to-win preliminary feature on the week, Ross moved up one spot to finish 10th.
With another preliminary night on tap, Ross finished runner-up in his heat before recording another Top-10 finish with a seventh-place outing in evening's 25-lap prelim.
For Saturday's $75,000-to-win big show, Bailes raced his way into the main event by winning his B-Main. Starting 20th in the 100-lap finale, Ross made up seven positions to land a 13th-place finish.
