Ross Bailes
Second-place finish in wild night at Senoia
For the first weekend in March, Ross Bailes began his Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals title chase at Swainsboro Raceway (Swainsboro, Ga.) on Friday.
With 32 cars in the pit area, Ross clicked off the sixth-quickest lap before recording a third-place run in his heat. For the $10,053-to-win series opener, Bailes overcame an incident on an early restart and rallied to finish ninth at the checkers.
On Saturday, the Billy Hicks Racing team headed to Senoia Raceway (Senoia, Ga.) for the second Spring Nationals event of the weekend. With a loaded 43 car field on hand, Bailes started the feature event from the fourth position after a convincing heat race win. Ross persevered through rough track conditions to record a runner-up finish behind race-winner Wil Herrington. Parker Martin, Haiden Cowan, and Payton Freeman followed behind Bailes to complete the Top-5.
To finish off his three-day race weekend, Bailes ventured to his home track of Cherokee Speedway (Gaffney, S.C.) for the annual Ginger Owens Memorial March Madness. With a fifth-place finish in his race pinning him to a ninth-row starting position, Bailes gained seven postions in the drawn-out feature to finish 11th.
