Bailes scores Top-5 finish in Bristol Bash finale

Behind the wheel of the Bill Hicks-owned No. 79 Late Model, Ross Bailes was one of 29 World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series entries invited to Bristol Motor Speedway (Bristol, Tenn.) on Friday afternoon for the two-day Bristol Bash. After coming two spots shy of a transfer position in his heat with a sixth-place finish, Bailes edged his way into the opening night feature with a fifth-place finish in his B-Main. With $10,000 on the line, Ross clawed forward six spots in the 40-lap affair to place 15th. (Michael Boggs Photography)

After Saturday evening’s program was postponed to Sunday afternoon, Ross timed in fifth fastest in his qualifying group before picking up an eight-lap heat race victory. Receiving the fourth-starting position for the $20,000-to-win A-Main via the redraw, Bailes slipped outside the top-five early but rebounded late in the 40-lapper to register a third-place finish, trailing Devin Moran and Ricky Weiss across the line. Ricky Thornton Jr. and Brandon Overton completed the Top-5 finishers.
