Bailes finishes 13th in Dirt Late Model Dream prelim at Eldora

Ross Bailes made the trek to Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, Ohio) on Wednesday afternoon to kick off four nights of racing with the 27th annual Dirt Late Model Dream. With the 74-car field split into two separate groups for a pair of preliminary features, Bailes came two spots short of a transfer position in his heat race with a seventh-place finish. Needing a fourth-place finish or better in his B-Main to make the $10,000-to-win preliminary feature, Bailes suffered issues with his fuel pressure that saw him pull off early. With preliminary results on Wednesday night lining him up 10th in his heat on Thursday afternoon, Ross logged a seventh-place finish, giving him one last shot at the $127,000-to-win Dirt Late Model Dream with a B-Main appearance. After crossing the line in third to grab the final transfer spot, Bailes was light at the scales, dropping him to the tail. A last-minute rule change in the drivers meeting created a miscommunication that got Bailes disqualified.

For another round of preliminary features on Friday, Bailes timed in 17th fastest in his group before placing second in his heat race behind Scott Bloomquist. With $10,000 on the line in the feature, Ross dropped back to a 13th-place finish in the 25-lapper.

Rolling off on the third row of his heat on Saturday afternoon, Ross notched a fifth-place finish, transferring him into the B-Main for another shot at the A-Main. Locking the Top 3 into the $126,000-to-win Dirt Late Model Dream, Bailes was caught in a tangle early in the 20-lapper that brought a disappointing end to his weekend.
