Top 5 finish at 411 Motor Speedway, finishes third in points battle

Ross Bailes returned with the Schaeffer’s Southern Nationals on Tuesday evening on Tri-County Racetrack (Brasstown, N.C.) for the ninth round of the 12-race miniseries. Laying down the fastest lap overall in a field of 26 cars, Bailes locked into the pole position for the opening night feature. After jumping out to an early race lead, Ross made contact with a lapped-car on lap 14 while navigating through the field that sent him to the tail. After a scheduled off day on Wednesday night, Ross traveled to Crossville Speedway (Crossville, Tenn.) on Thursday for the $3,500-to-win A-Main. With the Top 5 qualifiers getting locked into the feature, Bailes posted the second fastest lap in his group behind Brandon Overton, which positioned him fourth on the starting grid. Getting taken out by another competitor near the halfway point of the feature while battling for second, Ross came from the tail of the field to finish sixth.

1On Friday afternoon at 411 Motor Speedway (Seymour, Tenn.), Bailes followed up the third fastest time in his group with a runner-up finish in his heat behind Cory Hedgecock. Jumping up one spot in the 53-lap feature, Ross notched a fifth place finish behind Chris Madden, Dale McDowell, Cory Hedgecock, and Brandon Overton.

For the final stop of the Schaeffer’s Southern Nationals tour, Ross invaded Tazewell Speedway (Tazewell, Tenn.) on Saturday night for the $10,053-to-win finale. After topping the 22-car field in time trials, Bailes streaked to a 10-lap heat race victory, which positioned him second on the starting grid for the show. With a flat tire slowing his momentum on lap 18, Ross Bailes salvaged a 12th place outing in the 53-lap affair.

Ross finished third in the final Schaeffer's Southern Nationals point standings.
