Ross Bailes invited to Intercontinental Classic at Eldora
After promoters and race officials were forced to postpone the 50th annual World 100 to 2021, Ross Bailes was one of 48 Late Models invited to Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, Ohio) on Thursday night to compete in the Intercontinental Classic. Jumping up two spots in his 10-lap heat race, Bailes posted a seventh place finish, transferring him into the B-Main for another shot at the opening night feature. On Friday afternoon for another $10,000-to-win preliminary feature, Ross came in sixth in his heat before falling one spot shy of a transfer position into the A-Main with a fourth place finish in his B-Main. With another cars scratch earning him a spot into the show, Bailes was an early retiree from the 30-lapper on lap 25.
With preliminary results from Thursday and Friday setting the grid for the heat races on Saturday, Bailes logged an eighth place finish in his heat, giving him one final shot at the $50,000-to-win Intercontinental Classic with a B-Main appearance. Slated to start eighth, Ross was a scratch from the 15-lap consolation event to save equipment.
