February 7th, 2015 - Bailes Open 2015 Campaign with LOLMDS in Georgia
Ross Bailes opened his 2015 campaign on Thursday night, piloting the Troy Baird owned #5e Club 29 Super Late Model in the opening round of the Georgia Boot Super Bowl of Racing at Golden Isles Speedway (Brunswick, Georgia). Rick Schwallie Photo

A talent-laden field of thirty-three entries registered for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event, and a fifth to third run in heat race action positioned Ross starting tenth on the grid for the $7,000-to-win main event. Bailes made his way into the top five early in the 30 lapper before mechanical issues forced him to retire just a few laps short of the checkered flag. He was credited with a fourteenth place finish in the final rundown.

A $10,000-to-win program was contested on Friday evening for LOLMDS competitors and thirty-three entries once again converged on the 4/10 mile oval. Ross enjoyed a strong start to his outing by posting the quickest time in his group during qualifications to lock into the pole position for his heat race. He went on to win the heat race, earning him the pole position for the 50 lap finale with Jonathan Davenport alongside.

When the race went green, Davenport took control and immediately began to build a comfortable advantage over Bailes in second. Bailes stalked Davenport for more than half of the 50 lapper before disaster stuck for Davenport on lap 36 when he made hard contact with the backstretch wall. Bailes assumed the top spot and lead until lap 42 when his night came to a heartbreaking end, suffering a flat tire coming off turn four. Ross retired to a disappointing 20th place finish in the final rundown.

The weekend drew to a close on Saturday night with Bailes recorded his best finish thus far in the Georgia Boot Super Bowl of Racing. Thirty-two entries signed in for the $10,000-to-win program, and after qualifying second in Group A of time trials Ross went on to win his heat race from the pole position, locking him into the third start spot on the feature grid. During the course of the 50 lap finale, Bailes battled amongst the top five for much of the event before crossing the finish line in fifth behind race winner Jonathan Davenport, Earl Pearson Jr., Brandon Sheppard and Scott Bloomquist.
